Migaloo sightings prompt call for caution around whales
As Migaloo (pictured) the white whale makes his way north during the annual migration of humpback whales along Australia’s east coast, researchers have issued a renewed call for extreme care around all whales.
The Southern Cross University Whale Research Centre is urging people to heed the special exclusion zone which applies to Migaloo. The regulations mean no one can bring a boat or jet ski closer than 500 metres or fly an aircraft within 2000 feet of the whale.
Bush foods guide produced for local schools
A new guide to teach primary school children not only about bush foods in their local areas, but also how to grow and eat them, was launched yesterday at Goonellabah Primary School.
The comprehensive guide for teachers has been produced by the Dorroughby Education Centre in conjunction with the Richmond Landcare Network through a Forging Partnerships Grant. It is understood to be the first of its kind in Australia.
Tweed Council appeals for information as more trees poisoned in Burringbar
Vandals have struck again in Burringbar with a senseless attack on a number of young and established trees in Masterson Park near a significant war memorial in the heart of the village.
The brazen vandals even re-poisoned trees which were attacked in March this year, making certain of their removal because of safety issues.
